Benefits of using HSBFC

  • Reduce the risk of early-age thermal cracking especially in mass concreting;
  • Improve the resistance to sulfate and chloride attacks of concrete, especially for marine structures. According to SS EN 197-1, if GGBS/GBBFS replacement is 66% or higher, regardless C3A content in clinker, the blended cement is classified as sulfate resisting cement ;
  • Eliminate the risk of damage caused by Alkali-silica Reaction (ASR) in concrete;
  • Improve long-term strength development of concrete.

HSBFC possesses other features such as good workability, prolonged slump retention, higher ultimate compressive strength and higher flexural strength. The more aesthetically pleasing appearance of lighter colour in HSBFC concrete can soften the visual impact of large structures.

Typical uses of HSBFC

With the superior characteristics over OPC and conventional Sulfate-resisting cement (SRC), HSBFC is highly recommended for use in the following areas:

  • Marine structures
  • Basement or sub-structure works
  • Dams, reservoirs and hydro-electric projects
  • Sewerage treatment plant
  • Foundation such as piles in soils containing sulfates/chlorides
  • Underground pre-cast/in-situ-placing concrete structures such as tunnels
  • Large concrete members such as transfer beams
  • Pre-cast sewerage pipes

PreFine 60/80 (Microfine Cement)

Prefine 60/80 is Green microfine cement based on Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag (Singapore Green label certificate number: 022-003-2451) developed for special applications, such as injection and grouting. Because of its fineness (D95 <16 µm, D50 <5 µm), PreFine 60/80 has excellent penetration into micro cracks and provides efficient tightness combined with good durability. Prefine 60/80 is designed to meet stringent market requirements such as penetrability; flow-ability, bleeding limit and pod life of more than 1 hrs for tropical regions. In 2015, EnGro has produced and supplied about 2000 tons of premium Prefine 60/80 for fissure grouting applications  jobs at various Thomson line MRT stations with highest quality and short lead time of less than 4 days.  EnGro has in-house capability to tailor performance of microfine cements by changing its fineness, setting time and flow properties to suite the job requirements.

Microfine Cements are blast furnace slag based cements composed of ultrafine particles and are designed for injection into loose soils, rock and concrete. They feature a maximum grain size ranging from a D95 of 6µm to a D95 of 16µm. Depending on the application and the permeability of the strata, different grain size can be used. It is suited for stabilizing or sealing all earthen foundations; especially for permanent structures such as tunnels, dams, deep foundations and oil storage tanks. Because they cure into a hardened concrete, Microfine Cements cause no pollution to underground soils or water supplies.

APPLICATIONS
PreFine is recommended for:

  • Rock Injection: tunnels, caverns etc., as pre- or post-stabilization injection. Fixation and water scaling in fractured zone during tunnel construction. Water sealing of tunnel walls.
  • Soil Injection: stabilization, water tightness, preventing settlement, etc.
  • Underground oil storage facilities: Ensuring leak tightness of retention dikes around oil tank.
  • Curtain Grouting for dams and embankments.
  • Water sealing of joints on water and sewage mains.
